The main research focus of our laboratory is the understanding of the transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of the energetic metabolism in the context of obesity and diabetes.

Our approach is to identify how environmental stimuli (diet, cold exposure or exercise) modulate the transcriptional and chromatin landscape to control whole body energy balance through metabolic tissues. We study molecular pathways connecting intermediary metabolism and chromatin function. More in particular, we investigate the function of the transcription factor Yin Yang 1 and associated chromatin factors in thermogenesis and mitochondrial function.
